6.24What are quarterly results?

1What is it?

Listed companies in India must publish financial results every quarter (3 months), within 45 days of quarter end (60 days for the year-end quarter).

2Why does it exist?

Quarterly results let investors track performance regularly. Markets react strongly to them.

3Stock market example

India’s financial year runs April to March. Q1 = Apr–Jun, Q2 = Jul–Sep, Q3 = Oct–Dec, Q4 = Jan–Mar. Compare a quarter with the same quarter last year (YoY) to avoid seasonal effects, and with the previous quarter (QoQ).
