10.9What is an IPO lot size?
Time-sensitive: Retail ₹2 lakh limit and minimum application rules as of November 2026. Rules and rates change, so check the official source before acting.
1What is it?
The lot (market lot) is the minimum number of shares you can apply for; applications must be in multiples of it.
2Why does it exist?
SEBI sets the minimum application value (roughly ₹14,000–₹15,000), so lots are sized accordingly.
3Calculation
Max retail lots = ₹2,00,000 ÷ (Lot × Cap price)
- Lot 50 × ₹300 = ₹15,000.
- ₹2,00,000 ÷ ₹15,000 = 13.3 → 13 lots.
A retail investor can apply for up to 13 lots (₹1,95,000).
