7.7What is a time frame?

1What is it?

The time frame is how much time each candle represents: 1 minute, 5 minutes, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month.

2Why does it exist?

Different traders use different frames. Intraday traders use 1–15 minute candles; investors use daily and weekly.

3Practical use

Rule: check the bigger time frame first. A stock may look like it’s falling on a 5-minute chart but be in a strong uptrend on the weekly.

4Quick revision
  • Each candle = one time period.
  • Match time frame to your style.
  • Check higher time frames first.
