13.8What are DP charges?

Time-sensitive: DP charges vary by broker (roughly ₹13–20 + GST per scrip). Check your broker’s pricing. Rules and rates change, so check the official source before acting.
1What is it?

DP (Depository Participant) charges are a flat fee charged when shares are debited from your demat (i.e. when you sell delivery shares), per stock, per day.

2Why does it exist?

They pay the depository and DP for moving shares. Selling a small quantity can make this fee a large % of the trade.

3Calculation
  1. Sell 2 shares of a ₹100 stock (₹200) with a ₹15.93 DP charge.
  2. ₹15.93 ÷ ₹200 = ~8% of the sale!
Avoid very small delivery sells.
4Quick revision
  • Flat per scrip per sell day.
  • Only on delivery sells.
  • Big % on tiny trades.
